🧑💼 Find a Migration Agent for Graduate Visa 485
The Temporary Graduate visa (Subclass 485) allows international graduates who have recently completed an eligible Australian qualification to live and work in Australia for 2 to 4 years after graduation — and in some regions, up to 6 years. It is the most common pathway from study to skilled migration.
The 485 has strict timing requirements — missing the 6-month lodgement window is a common reason for refusals. An agent ensures your CoE end dates, study duration qualifications, and English test results are all in order before you lodge.

United KingdomGraduate Visa 485 — Frequently asked questions
When do I need to apply for my 485 Visa?+
You must lodge within 6 months of receiving formal notification from your institution that you have completed your course. This date is typically the date on your completion letter or academic transcript, not your graduation ceremony. Missing this window means you cannot apply for the 485 at all.
What is the Post-Study Work Stream vs Graduate Work Stream?+
The Post-Study Work Stream is available to graduates who completed a bachelor, masters, or doctoral degree at an Australian university. It provides 2–4 years of work rights with no occupational restrictions. The Graduate Work Stream is for trades and diploma graduates whose occupation is on a specified list, and provides 18 months of work rights.
Do I qualify for a longer 485 visa if I studied regionally?+
Yes. If you studied and lived in a regional area of Australia for at least 2 years of your course, you may qualify for an additional 1–2 years on your 485, depending on which region. A MARA agent can assess whether your institution and postcode qualify under the regional incentives.
Can I include my partner on my 485 visa?+
Yes. You can add a secondary applicant (partner or dependent children) to your 485 application. Your partner will generally receive the same work rights as you for the duration of the visa.
Can the 485 lead to permanent residency?+
The 485 is not a pathway to PR in itself, but it gives you 2–4 years to gain Australian work experience and potentially apply for skilled migration (189/190/491) or employer-sponsored PR (186/ENS). Many graduates use the 485 strategically to accumulate points and work experience for a PR application.
