IDP Education
About IDP Education
IDP Education is one of the oldest and most trusted international education companies in the world. Founded in 1969 and co-owned by 38 Australian universities, IDP has grown into a global network spanning 79 offices across 30+ countries. Beyond university placements — helping students apply to institutions in Australia, Canada, the UK, the USA, New Zealand and Ireland — IDP is also a co-owner and administrator of the IELTS English language test, giving it a unique dual role in the student journey. In 2017, IDP Education listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX: IEL), marking its transformation into a publicly accountable, investor-scrutinised company. With over 1 million students placed at universities globally, IDP's scale and university co-ownership model set it apart from virtually every other consultancy.
AECC Global
About AECC Global
AECC Global began in Melbourne, Australia in 2008, founded with a focus on helping students from South and Southeast Asia navigate pathways to Australian universities. What started as a single office has grown into one of the fastest-expanding international education groups of the 2010s, now operating 37 branches across 18 countries including India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Nigeria, South Africa, UAE, Brazil and beyond. AECC is ICEF-certified and a member of PIER (Professional International Education Resources), giving it direct accreditation and partnerships with hundreds of universities globally. Their model combines local counsellors who understand each source country's culture and education system with centralised quality controls — a balance that has helped them maintain consistency at scale. In recent years, AECC has expanded aggressively into Africa and Latin America.
SI-UK
About SI-UK
SI-UK — Student Information UK — was established in London in 2001 with a singular focus: helping international students gain admission to British universities. That specialisation has made SI-UK one of the most recognised UK-only consultancies in the world. Unlike generalist agencies, SI-UK counsellors are trained exclusively on the UK system — UCAS procedures, foundation programmes, graduate entry routes, and the Student Visa process. Today they operate 25 offices across 18 countries, including major hubs in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, China, Vietnam, Nigeria and Colombia. SI-UK partners directly with 150+ UK universities and charges a consultancy fee for its services, a model that differs from commission-only agencies and is sometimes seen as a signal of independence. For students with the UK as their primary destination, SI-UK's depth of UK-specific knowledge is difficult to match.
Edwise International
About Edwise International
Edwise International holds a distinguished place in Indian study abroad history as one of the country's earliest dedicated overseas education consultancies, established in Mumbai in 1991. At a time when studying abroad was unfamiliar territory for most Indian families, Edwise built its reputation by providing reliable, transparent guidance and maintaining direct relationships with overseas universities. Over more than three decades, Edwise has guided more than 500,000 students to universities in Australia, Canada, the UK, the USA, New Zealand, Ireland and Europe. Their ICEF certification and long-standing university partnerships have helped them weather several cycles of visa policy changes, economic shifts and competitive disruptions — earning a loyal client base largely through word-of-mouth referrals. Edwise operates from 11 offices across India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and the UAE.
Y-Axis Overseas Careers
About Y-Axis Overseas Careers
Y-Axis was founded in Hyderabad in 1999 and is primarily an immigration and overseas-careers business rather than a university placement agent. Its service menu leads with permanent residency and skilled migration — Canada Express Entry, Australian subclass 189 and 190, the UK Skilled Worker visa, the Germany Opportunity Card — alongside work visas, visit and dependant visas, and in-house coaching for IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, CELPIP and OET. Student visas are one line among several. That distinction matters commercially: education agents are paid a commission by universities and are usually free to the student, whereas migration services are charged to the applicant. The company operates separate country sites for India, the UAE, the UK, Australia and Canada, and states it runs more than 40 offices with over 1,500 staff — figures we have not independently verified.
Leverage Edu
About Leverage Edu
Leverage Edu is a technology-led study abroad platform founded in April 2017 by Akshay Chaturvedi, and one of the few venture-backed companies in this sector. It has raised roughly $73 million across ten rounds, including a $40 million Series C in 2023 led by ETS — the organisation that owns the TOEFL test — which valued the company near $150 million. It works mainly with students from India, Nigeria, Nepal and other emerging markets, and bundles counselling with education loans through non-bank lenders, accommodation and money transfer. The ETS shareholding is worth understanding: it is the same structural pattern as IDP co-owning IELTS, where the organisation advising you on tests has a financial interest in one of them.
Expert Education & Visa Services
About Expert Education & Visa Services
Expert Education & Visa Services is an Australia-focused education and migration agency. The company states it began in Nepal in 2003 helping students apply to Australian institutions, and has since built an Australian office network across Sydney, Parramatta, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Canberra and Perth, alongside offices through South and Southeast Asia. Its practical services go beyond applications to OSHC and OVHC health cover, visa medical bookings, IELTS and PTE preparation, accommodation and pre-departure briefings. The Australian focus is a genuine strength if that is your destination and a limitation if you are still comparing countries. Because the company handles both education agency work and migration advice — separate regulated activities in Australia — check that anyone advising you on visas is MARA-registered.
