The 407 is granted for the length of the approved training program, up to a maximum of 2 years.
Do I need a sponsor for the 407 visa?+
Yes. You must be sponsored by an organisation approved as a Temporary Activities Sponsor and — unless the sponsor is a Commonwealth agency — nominated for a specific training position. From 11 March 2026 the visa can only be lodged after both are approved.
Can I work on a 407 visa?+
Your activities are limited to the approved training program. General full-time work outside the scope of your training is not permitted.
What is a training plan for the 407?+
A written document from your sponsor describing the training program — the occupation, the learning outcomes, supervision arrangements, the duration, and how the training relates to your work back home or your Australian registration requirements.
What is the difference between the 407 and a student visa?+
A Student visa (500) is for formal study at a CRICOS-registered education provider. The 407 is for workplace-based occupational training or professional development delivered by an approved sponsor, not for enrolling in a standard course.
