United KingdomAsked by Oluwaseun F.6 July 2026For a UK Student Visa (Student Route), you need to demonstrate that you have enough money to pay for your tuition fees plus your living costs. The financial requirements depend on where you will be studying.
For living costs, you need to show: £1,334 per month if you will be studying in London, or £1,023 per month if you will be studying outside London. This amount is calculated for up to 9 months, so the maximum you would need to show is £12,006 (London) or £9,207 (outside London).
On top of living costs, you must also have covered your first year of tuition fees. If your institution has already confirmed you have paid fees or has assessed your maintenance requirement in your CAS at a lower figure, that lower amount may apply.
The funds must be held in your account (or your parent's account if they are financing your studies) continuously for at least 28 consecutive days ending no more than 31 days before you submit your visa application. This is a strict rule — even one day's gap can make your financial evidence invalid.
If you are on an official government scholarship or sponsorship that covers both fees and living costs, you may not need to show separate bank statements.
All figures are in British pounds and are correct as of 2026 — always check the UKVI website for the most current amounts before you apply.
