IrelandAsked by Oluseun Okoye10 July 2026The Critical Skills Employment Permit (CSEP) is Ireland's most sought-after employment permit for international graduates — it provides a fast route to long-term residence rights and eventual Irish citizenship.
Who it is for:
Non-EU/EEA workers with a job offer in an eligible occupation in Ireland:
- Degree level qualifications AND earning at least €38,000/year (many tech and professional roles meet this), OR
- Roles on the Critical Skills Occupations List (tech, engineering, healthcare, science, finance, etc.) at the above salary threshold
Key benefits over other permits:
- Leads to Stamp 4 (unrestricted work rights) after 2 years with the same employer
- Spouse/partner receives Stamp 1G (full, unrestricted work rights) from the start
- No need to leave Ireland if you held a student visa and meet the criteria
- Directly eligible to apply for long-term residence and then Irish citizenship
How to apply:
Your employer applies for the permit on your behalf through the Department of Enterprise. The application takes 2–6 weeks typically.
Salary requirements:
€38,000 minimum for most. Some healthcare roles have different arrangements. No salary requirement for roles on the critical skills list above the base threshold.
After 2 years on CSEP:
Apply for Stamp 4 — you can then work for any employer in any role without a permit. After 5 years total lawful residence in Ireland, apply for citizenship.
Ireland's strong tech sector:
Ireland hosts European headquarters of Google, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and many other tech firms — creating significant demand for international tech talent on CSEPs.
