IrelandAsked by Oluwatobiloba Oladipo10 July 2026Ireland is home to world-class universities and is an English-speaking country in the EU — making it a popular choice for international students. Here are the student visa requirements:
Who needs a visa:
Citizens of most non-EU/EEA countries need a student visa (Study Visa C or D) to study in Ireland.
Required documents:
1. Letter of acceptance from an Irish educational institution that is registered on the Interim List of Eligible Programmes (ILEP) — critical: only ILEP courses qualify
2. Evidence of tuition fee payment (you must pay fees before applying for the visa)
3. Financial evidence: €7,000 per year for living costs PLUS tuition already paid. Bank statements showing funds held for 6+ months (ideally) — show €10,000+ available.
4. Private medical insurance covering you for the full duration of your stay
5. Completed online visa application (visa.inis.ie)
6. Passport (valid for at least 12 months beyond your study period)
7. Recent passport photo
8. Letter of explanation (why Ireland, why this course, future plans)
9. Academic transcripts
ILEP (Interim List of Eligible Programmes):
This is crucial — only courses on this list qualify for a study visa. Ensure your programme is ILEP-listed before paying fees or applying.
Application:
Apply online at visa.inis.ie. Processing time: 8–10 weeks on average.
