National Visa (Type D — Long-Stay) is required:
For study stays longer than 90 days, you must apply for a national visa at the German Embassy in your home country.
Required documents:
1. Valid passport (valid for at least the planned duration of stay)
2. Unconditional letter of admission (Zulassungsbescheid) from a German university — Studienkolleg (preparatory college) admission also acceptable
3. Proof of German or English language proficiency (depending on your programme's language of instruction)
4. Financial proof: Show access to at least €11,208/year (as of 2024) in a blocked account (Sperrkonto) or equivalent funding
5. Completed visa application form
6. Biometric passport photos
7. Motivation letter (statement of purpose)
8. CV/résumé
9. Academic transcripts and qualifications (usually officially certified/apostilled)
10. Health insurance valid in Germany
11. Declaration of purpose of stay
Blocked account (Sperrkonto):
The most common way to prove financial resources. Deposit €11,208 with providers like Deutsche Bank, Expatrio, Coracle, or Fintiba. Funds are released monthly (€934/month) once in Germany.
Processing time: Apply 3–4 months before your course start date. Can take 4–12 weeks.
