OISC REGULATED · UNITED KINGDOMWORK VISASkilled Worker Visa — UK Immigration Advisers
The UK Skilled Worker visa allows you to come to or stay in the UK to do an eligible job with an approved employer. It replaced the Tier 2 (General) visa in December 2020. You must be sponsored by a licensed UK employer and meet minimum salary and skill thresholds under the points-based system.
Skilled Worker visa refusals often involve salary thresholds, incorrect SOC codes, or CoS issues. An OISC-regulated adviser verifies your sponsor's licence status, confirms the correct SOC code and salary level, and ensures your application meets all Home Office requirements.

Frequently asked questions — Skilled Worker Visa
What is a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS)?
A CoS is a digital reference number assigned by your UK employer that confirms the job offer and sponsorship details. It is not a physical document. Your employer must be on the Home Office Register of Licensed Sponsors. Without a valid CoS, you cannot apply for a Skilled Worker visa.
Can I change employer on a Skilled Worker visa?
Yes, but you must apply for a new Skilled Worker visa with your new employer before you start working for them. Your new employer must also be a licensed sponsor and issue you a new CoS. Do not change jobs before receiving the new visa.
What are the salary thresholds for a Skilled Worker visa?
From April 2024, the general threshold is £38,700 per year, or the going rate for the specific occupation — whichever is higher. Some shortage occupation roles may have different thresholds. New entrants (recent graduates or those switching into a new career) may qualify for a reduced threshold. An immigration adviser can confirm the correct threshold for your role.
Can I bring my family on a Skilled Worker visa?
Yes. Your spouse or partner and dependent children under 18 can apply as your dependants. They have the right to work in the UK without restriction. Each dependant must pay their own visa fee and Immigration Health Surcharge.
Can a Skilled Worker visa lead to settlement (ILR)?
Yes. After 5 years on a Skilled Worker visa (or other qualifying routes), you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). You must pass the Life in the UK test, meet English language requirements, and not have spent more than 180 days outside the UK in any 12-month period of those 5 years.
