Working Holiday Visa Advisers in New Zealand

New Zealand's Working Holiday Visa allows young people from eligible countries (60+ nationalities) to live, work, and travel in New Zealand for up to 12 months. Some countries (UK, Canada, Germany, Japan) have enhanced arrangements allowing a second or third year. It is one of the most popular pathways for young people to experience New Zealand and is often the first step toward longer-term residency.

Why use an LIA for Working Holiday Visa?

Most Working Holiday Visas are straightforward online applications, but an LIA is valuable when you have had a prior visa refusal, have health or character concerns, or want to understand your options for transitioning to a longer-term visa or work visa during or after your working holiday.

Frequently asked questions — Working Holiday Visa

Which countries are eligible for a New Zealand Working Holiday Visa?

New Zealand has Working Holiday Agreements with over 60 countries including the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Scandinavia, USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Chile, Argentina, and others. Quotas apply for some countries. Check immigration.govt.nz for the current list.

Can I extend my New Zealand Working Holiday Visa?

Some nationalities can apply for a second (and in some cases third) year on a Working Holiday Visa. The UK and Canada have Extended Working Holiday arrangements allowing extra time. Additionally, if you work for 3+ months in horticulture or viticulture in certain regions, you may qualify for a 3-month extension. An LIA can confirm your extension eligibility.

Can a Working Holiday Visa lead to permanent residence in NZ?

Not directly, but it can be a stepping stone. Work experience gained on a WHV can contribute to points for the Skilled Migrant Category or qualify you for an Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV). Many people use a working holiday to get a feel for New Zealand and an NZ employer before pursuing a longer-term visa.

Can I study while on a Working Holiday Visa?

Yes, but you are limited to studying up to 3 months in total during your working holiday. For longer study, you would need a Student Visa.

Do I need an LIA for a Working Holiday Visa?

Most straightforward Working Holiday Visa applications are completed online without an adviser. An LIA is recommended if you have a prior refusal, health or character concerns, are not sure which visa category applies to your nationality, or are planning to transition to another visa type during your stay.
