What score do I need for AHPRA registration?
Most AHPRA-registered professions require a minimum score of B in each of the four sub-tests (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking). Some professions may have specific requirements — always check directly with your professional board.
How long is an OET score valid?
OET scores are valid for 2 years from the test date. Most healthcare regulators, including AHPRA and the NMC, require results within this period.
Is OET easier than IELTS for healthcare professionals?
OET is not necessarily easier, but it is more relevant. Because the test uses real clinical scenarios familiar to healthcare workers, many find it more natural than IELTS, which uses general academic content. However, the Writing sub-test is considered very challenging by most candidates.
How many times can I take OET?
There is no limit on how many times you can take OET. You can retake individual sub-tests if needed — you do not have to retake the whole test if you passed some sub-tests already.
Is OET accepted for Australian visa applications?
OET is not currently accepted by the Australian Department of Home Affairs for visa applications (which accept IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, or Cambridge). However, OET satisfies the English proficiency requirements for AHPRA registration, which is the key step for healthcare professionals seeking skilled migration.
